1971 Olds 442 Convertible
I have owned this car since the late 80\'s. Very fun car to drive and good looking too! Over the last 20 years, I\'ve put around 3000 miles on it. It\'s been garaged over that period and hasn\'t been driven in the rain.
Repairs that have been done:
  • 455 bored out when it was rebuilt - has about 3000 miles on it. It\'s not the original engine. Was told by shop the engine would produce around 370 HP.
    • Nickel plated headers
    • Numerous powder coated parts
    • New radiator
    • Holley 780 - I believe that\'s correct
    • Edelbrock intake.
    • Electronic ignition (took out the dual points)

  • Turbo 400 transmission - Rebuilt years ago and great shape.
  • Repainted about 20 years ago. Still in very good shape. Painted at Classic Chevrolet in Dallas.
  • Interior redone through Year One parts. (Still needs some work)
    • New OEM parts when possible.
    • Weather stripping
    • Replacement parts when OEM was not an option.
    • Or replaced with OEM parts off used cars.
    • New carpet, seats, door handles, window cranks, etc.

These are the areas that need work or additional attention.
  • Tires - Over 20 years old
  • AC - Rebuilt compressor, but has not been hooked up.
  • Interior
    • AC / Fan switch not hooked up.
    • Duct work not hooked up.
    • Radio was taken out. Hole in dash.
    • Glove box not - Pinhole rust spot on rear fender
    • Trunk - Rust coming through read lid.
    • Minor chips from kids!
  • Convertible top - Works, but needs seal replaced as it leaks.
  • Engine
    • Needs carburetorrebuilt - small leak.
    • Tune up - runs good. Misses out just a little at 55+

I have probably missed a couple of things that were done and that need to be done. The engine and transmission are both in very good shape and need minor work. I prefer to keep the car, but I don\'t have time to do the small things that it takes to keep them in prime running and looking condition.
Let me know if you have any questions and I\'ll be happy to answer. I\'ll add additional pictures as soon as possible.

Additional Notes:Regarding Convertible Top: The hydraulic pump that pushes the pistons in or out leaks. It is located in the trunk. I disassembled the pump a while back and the \"O ring\" looked to be in fine shape, so I cleaned it and put it back together. However, it didn\'t fix the leak. Probably needs to be replaced. When fluid is present, the top works fine going up and down.
Dash: As you can see from the pictures, the AC switches (fan) and duct work need to be replaced as well as the vacuum hoses. The compressor is rebuilt, but never hooked up. I believe the condenser was also replaced. I do have the under dash plastic parts needed to install the lower air vents and the piece coming from the firewall that distributes air throughout the car.
Center Console: I have the lid that attaches to the top.
Radio: The old radio was removed before I bought the car, so you can see the hole in the dash.
Glove box: I have the replacement, but have not installed it as it would be easier to do the AC duct work with it out.
Rust: The picture with the key is taken from the rear passenger side. The other pictures are all from the trunk.
Seats: All seating came from Year One years ago. The glue they used on the silver trim wasn\'t very good. I\'ve cleaned it up, but at some point it might have to be re-glued.
Tires / Rims - I have a spare rim, but it has not been painted nor does it have a tire. It will be included with the car. I do NOT have the original jack either.

Engine & Head Codes - See picturesEngine Code is 396021FCylinder Head Code is G
Also the engine was rebuilt by Competition Machine of Plano, INC. At the time, it cost $3,987. I have the original invoice that I\'ll provide to the buyer.

Note: Body - Rear quarter panels have some fiberglass...instead of metal. They were professionally finished out and you can\'t tell unless you had a magnet. I\'ll send pictures if you would like to see.
There might be fiberglass in some other areas, but minimal.
The passenger door and fender were replaced due to damage. The replacements were in pretty good condition!
