1962 Ford ThunderbirdConvertible

This is a great driving and wellsorted example of the iconic “Bullet Bird” convertible. These were an iconic jet design and Ford\'s answer to a personal luxury car. And for the era, they were luxurious. Innovations such as the fold away convertible top, Swing Away steering wheel to aide with entrance and egress, and a floating rear view mirror were all innovations when these cars debuted in 1961.

I am a collector and currently owner four 1961-1963 Thunderbird Convertibles and Roadsters. With that ownership has come an understanding of the cars and the issues that they can have. It has also allowed me to surround myself with competentand knowledgeable people to help with those issues. My thoughts are, I want my cars to be the best they possibly can be. So I prepare them all the same, with a no expense spared approached. This car was a good car, but had needs. Over the course of my ownership, we have brought the car back from being a good car that was parked in a garage for several years to usable and well maintained example. This is not a rotisserie restoredConcours car, but a very strong driver quality car. There is also a known history dating back to it being new, which is very rare to have with a 56 year old car.

This Thunderbird was originally sold in new inSouth Carolina with a dealer installed Roadster Package. The package consistsof the Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, the tonneau cover, passenger grab handle, badging andthe deleted rear fender skirts. This car supposedly had a significantpolitician as its first owner. I have a notarized letter from the previousowner regarding the subject. It is believed to be 4 owner car. The previousowner bought the car in 1973 and owned ituntil the late spring of 2017.

The 390 V8 engine was completely rebuiltby the previous owner within the last couple of years with very little mileagedriven since. The car shows just over 50K. A new fuel tank was fitted, alongwith fresh fuel lines, brake lines, brake cylinders, brake master cylinder, powerbrake booster, rebuilt steering box, rebuilt generator, and a new Holley carburetor. The car has had recent fresh filters and fluids. The convertible top has beenreplaced with a correct Haartz top along with rebuilding all of the topmechanical\'s and hydraulics system. This included a new hydraulic pump for thetop. All of the glass believed to be original. The windsheild is an original FOMOCO stamp glass and does have a minor scratch on the passenger side. New Hankook whitewalls tires withtubes have been installed. Interior wasfreshened with new dash trim and replaced door panels. Also, a correct newtweed trunk liner kit was installed. Filters and fluids have also beenreplaced.

Cosmetically the car is verynice. The paint presents very well. It has a great shine and luster. All of theexterior chrome on the car is bright and free of any major blemishes. Theinterior of the car is actually really nice. All of the aluminum interior trimwas all replaced. The two interior door panels were replaced with newreplacements and dyed to match. The seats, carpets are in great shape. All ofthe gauges work, as does the original radio.

The car has only ever lived in South Carolina,Georgia, or Florida. This is true southern car. There is no evidence ofcorrosion or previous issues. The undercarriage was never undercoated, unlike so many of these. It rides on 4 original Kelsey Hayes 48 spoke wheels. Thisis a great American classic that is usableand gets positive attentioneverywhere. So be prepared to be asked if a picture can be taken.
