The term, "low expansion" is in reference to the pistons ability to maintain size from cold to hot temp. This is very desirable for street operation. The Probe forged pistons will not have the so-called piston rattle commonly associated with many forged pistons. This is the exact type forged pistons many high performance factory cars use.
The Probe forged pistons are capable of handling far more hp thana cast orhypereutectic piston.You may ask why go with forged pistons. The answer is that should you encounter any tunning issues, detonation becomes an issue. Detonation can destroy your complete engine, block and all. Your carburation could become lean for whatever reason, and this is sure to create a detonation issue, timing to close to max performance, failing to reset timing for summer weather, or you accidentally put regular gas in the car, you'll not make it home most likely. Remember, your running a compression range that is border line acceptable for pump gas. The forged piston is going to resist the damage from detonation to a very high degree. The rings do not require file fitment. The weight of these pistons is approximately the same as most of your hypereutectic pistons on the market, and this is very important, as you can use these pistons with any of the cast iron or cast nodular steel cranks on the market. These pistons are highlysutible for use withnitrous or blower setups, but for those not running forced induction, the forged pistons offer the best reliability and most importantly they are very resistant to the effects ofdetonation.The forged piston is far stronger than hypereutectic pistons. For the slight increase in cost, this setup is the best value on the market. There are many other benefitswith forged pistons,such as the ability to withstand much higher engine temperatures.We would noteven consider Keith Black, (KB) hypereutecticpistons due to the fact they are very prone to detonation in our opinion. If your in doubt about this, do a search on Googleand decide for your self.Forged pistons arefar superior to cast or hypereutectic pistons, this is a fact.

Using forged pistons vs non forged such as cast or hypereutectic is a very good upgrade to your engine, andwould for sure increase the resale valueshould you ever decide to sell your car or truck, and may I mention bragging rightsare wellestablished. You can't imagine how easy it isfor your engine to get outoftune and create a detonation issue, and non-forged pistons are very prone to destruction when thishappens.I'm not just giving you a sales hype onthis issue. If you had a dollar for every engine that has been destroyed from detonation injust the last year, you could retire ten times over. We see thishappening all the time.You carb. can easily get out of whack, andrun lean veryeasily, and this creates are a tremendous heatcondition in the combustion chamber on a fully warmed engine at open throttle.If you were at full throttle and your electric fuel pumpstopped working,just prior to the time the engine quit, your going to goextremely lean for a moment,and believe me whenI tell you, this is often enough to destroy your engine. The conditions have to be just right for this to happen, but there are so many other factors also leading to detonation on a street rod engine.Having forged pistons will be your only hope should the conditions arise for detonation to occur.
