So how do these pulleys make more power? Well it's quite simple. There are two ways in which the Vision Motorworks pulleys increase power: first by eliminating weight at the crankshaft and second by minimizing the parasitic drag loses that all the engine accessories create. For every pound you eliminate off the crankshaft you gain an average of 2.7 horsepower, so by eliminating weight we are making power. All your accessories are like small brakes on your crankshaft. So your power steering, A/C, water pump etc... act like small brakes on the crank and thus they rob power from the engine. By underdriving them, or slowing them down, we lower the amount of power they rob the engine. Vision Motoworks was very careful to only underdrive the accessories 15-20% so that no adverse cooling or driveability issues were encountered.
Please note: All underdrive pulleys for the 2.5L engine (regardless of the manufacturer) require that the thin aluminum/plastic flange on the oil pump housing be grinded off. This is easily accomplished with a die grinder (in a few minutes).
