1963 Chrysler Crown Imperial Convertible. Push Button Transmission. Cross-Ram 413 Wedge!
This '63 Crown Imperial convertible is one of the rarest products of Chrysler's ongoing battle with Cadillac for American ultra-luxury supremacy. These cars were very expensive when new and a mere 526 were produced.
1963 models were the last Virgil Exner–styled Imperials and showed significant styling refinements and substantial engineering improvements to update the car.
In 1963 Chrysler introduced the 5-Year/50,000-Mile Powertrain Warranty
The new warranty was icing on the cake, showing Chrysler was prepared to stand behind the cars it built and to prove to the motoring public that its cars were well built. The automotive press knew the Imperial was something special, and so did repeat Imperial buyers. There just weren't enough of them to go around. So, even though Imperial retained its distinguished character, reputation for performance, keen owner loyalties, movie car status, and admiration from the public at large, it remained a rare sight on America's roadways. The mere presence of a new Imperial in 1963 attracted attention wherever it made an appearance. Few other cars have ever commanded this kind of attention. In 1962 when this car was released Mechanic Illustrated rated the Imperial the best sedan made in the World.
Over 18,000 parts went into the original assembly, 106 inspectors watchdoged 1500 examinations of the manufacture when new and during the restoration each item was attended to the same exacting standard to achieve this outstanding world class automobile automobile you see here today
One of only 526 built, this majestic 1963 Imperial Crown Convertible is powered bythe original413 V-8 that has had a little "icing" added to the "cake". If pulling up at a show in this rare Imperialdoes not cause Moparenthusiasts to go weak in the knees, the sight of the long Cross-Ram intake with dual 4-barrels will certainly do the trick! The transmission was rebuilt less than 200 miles ago. A special torque converter matched to the Cross-Ram intake was installed during the rebuild. The steering pump was rebuilt as were the brakes, which were updated to deal with the weight of the car. The brakes work extremely well on this 5,000+ lb. car! A CD/ DVD player is concealed neatly in the glovebox. A sub-woofer box sits in the trunk and easily unplugs for removal. The car was sold new at Christopher Motors in Miami, Fl.
