The original founders were Jim and Mary Thiel, and their two sons John and Bob. At the time Jim had just retired from his job with the U.S. Government and John and Bob were both school teachers. Thiel Motors was to just be hobby for the family. In 1974 Bob Thiel left Thiel Motor Sales and teaching to become a partner in what is today Burnette-Thiel Ford. John along with his Father Jim and Mother Mary stayed at Thiel Motors to serve the DeWitt area. In 1992 Mary passed away after a bout with cancer. After her death, Jim decided to retire from the business and turn it over to his son John. John then retired from Teaching and went into the business full time. In 1997 John's son Jim came to work for the family business. John's other son Jon Jr. Came to work for the business in 2001. In 2001 Thiel Motors had grown so rapidly that they opened a second location in Clinton Iowa. Today Thiel Motors has grown into a Full sales and service dealership, specializing in Sales of Factory program Vehicles, trucks and SUV's, along with hard to find Collector vehicles as well as fine imports.
