General Motors gave its midsize intermediate platform a much-needed makeover for the 1968 model year, and Oldsmobiles Cutlass-based 442 was one of the most dramatic and aesthetically successful interpretations of the new design. A separate model available... in two-door hardtop coupe and convertible body styles, the new 442 showed off flowing rounded contours in place of the dated linear shapes of the past, its shorter front and rear overhangs emphasizing the new cars poised-to-pounce stance. This handsomely restored 1968 Oldsmobile 442 coupe appeals to purists with its sporting appearance combining black paint with a contrasting red sport stripe, the motif repeated in the cars redline tires on chromed Super Stock wheels with black accents. The 442 badges and twin imitation hood grilles denote the cars stout 400/325 HP big-block V-8 engine, which is mated to a console-shifted Turbo Hydra-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. Upscale interior appointments include bucket seats, Soft Ray-tinted glass, three-spoke wood-grain-rimmed Sport steering wheel and a pushbutton radio.
