The third generation Pontiac Firebird wasintroduced in late 1981 by Pontiac alongside its corporate cousin, the Chevrolet Camaro for the 1982 modelyear. These were also the first Firebirds with factory fuel injection.

In 1988, the Firebird featured a new170hp L03 5.0L V8 engine with throttle body injection. All V8 enginesreceived serpentine belt systems and the A/C compressors were moved to thepassenger\'s side of the engine, de-cluttering the engine compartment.
