I am selling my 1971 Ford Maverick Grabber clone. This car's first restoration was nine years ago and never completely finished. The car was never driven except around the shop. Then was put in storage until it was recently brought out and freshened up and finished for many local car shows and personal enjoyment.
It is a factory yellow 6 cylinder automatic car with factory a/c. Sold in Georgia, and spent its whole life in Georgia. I chose this car because it was extremely rust free. Then I made it into the car I wanted. It now has all the factory Grabber trim items. An original Ford hood, deck lid spoiler, sport mirrors, door trim panels, fog lights and sport lamp switch. Also, all the correct Maverick V8 suspension components. Factory V8 Maverick disc brakes and rear end to make it 5 lug. V8 engine lower cross member and V8 front coil springs. Additionally, a Factory Ford 8in traction lock with 3.40:1 ratio and a Mustang II rear sway bar was added for improved performance. An early model 302 rebuilt with flat top pistons and large lift cam, 650cfm carburetor, and aluminum intake was installed. The left exhaust manifold is the factory V8 maverick, designed to fit around the factory clutch linkage. The right is a more free flowing 351W exhaust manifold. A new large aluminum radiator and Pertronix II distributor were added this year. The transmissions is a rebuilt world class T-5 five speed from a 1990 V8 mustang GT. The clutch linkage is factory style with reproduction Z-bar, new clutch kit and flywheel. Aluminum adapter plate between the transmission and bell housing to fit the T-5 transmission. The final gearing of the transmission and rear end, makes this car extremely fun to drive.
The interior was restored with all available at the time reproduction rubber seals, new headliner, carpet, and with factory Maverick bucket seats and recovered with 1971 Mach I seat covers and foam. There is no shoulder belts or dome light installed. As I like the clean appearance of the new headliner. There is no reason these items cannot still be installed. All the factory A/C components are still under the dash, with new heater core. The only factory A/C pieces missing is essentially everything under the hood. Factory Ford AM/FM mono speaker radio. New aluminium five spoke 17 x 8 black wheels with polished rim and new tires. Manual steering and brakes, but the car is so light, there is no problem stopping or steering it at any speeds.
There are some minor negatives about this car I have no problem showing or explaining. During the storage of the car, some things fell against it and there are minor dents in the passenger door, deck lid and hood. The car was painted with single stage acrylic enamel and was never sanded and buffed it until April 2018. All the scuffs, marks and paint imperfections buffed out flawlessly, so the dents are of course still visible but the paint looks good across the entire car. Any paint chips have been touched up, and I have a quart of PPG paint with the car. The fit and alignment of body panels is within factory tolerances as this car has never been wrecked. Expect the front edge of the hood was completely rusted away and was not restored to the correct shape, making the fender to hood alignment slightly less than desirable. I tried to show in the picture of the grille. The hood lip molding to the headlight trim. The passenger quarter panel was replaced because of bad body line damage around the wheel opening and down the rear of the panel to the side marker. I had an entire rust free quarter to fix the problem correctly. This was the only other repair on the body beside normal body work. The floor, truck floor, doors and fenders were completely rust free. The bumpers are original and have decent chrome. The front bumper has minor dents on the under side. This is not a number 1 restoration, but could easily become one with a new paint job, to fix all the minor problems listed and re-chromed bumpers. The exhaust from the manifold back is made from pieces other exhaust and is definitely ugly, but it doesn't leak and it sounds like a true american muscle car. It keeps the noise and exhaust out of the cabin. Any exhaust shop can easily bent a new set of pipes with tail pipes if you desire. The interior only shows minor aging because it is almost 10 years old. The dash pad is also original and has two cracks on the passenger side like you might expect from an original pad.
Overall this car is extremely complete and is a fun driver. The car shows really well and people love to talk about it. In the beginning the car was restored with a Ford toploader four speed. When the car was taking out of storage in January 2018, the motor and transmission were removed to repaint the engine and exhaust manifolds, and install the five speed transmission. All new fuel and water hoses were replaced on the re-installation. During this time new brakes and master cylinder and rear wheel cylinders were replaced. Along with the new clutch and ignition system, fuel tank and rebuilt carburetor. New steering wheel, turn signal switch, radiator, and wheels and tires are also new as of this year. This car has 100 miles on it since the restoration.
I will gladly answer any additional questions, or send more picture. I do not have the original title, but Georgia doesn't require one to register the car in the state. Delivery is also available for additional cost. Limit 1000 miles from Atlanta.
