1970 Javelin SST; GoPack; Big Bad Green; 401 CID; Auto; 3.91 Posi; Hi-Perf

\"Do Not miss this Opportunity\" Many High-Performanceitems in the details below;

Please see signed2016 appraisal in the Photos section,also see additional pictures below;

This car has great potential as an excellent core for thecurrent plan as a Resto-Mod or a quality numbers matching original. Thiscar was originally equipped with a 390 CID, Automatic w/Air Conditioning. The A/C system was removed except for under dashassembly, vents and controls. Theoriginal transmission was replaced with the stronger late model 727 Torquefliteand modified for High Performance including a high stall converter. Theoriginal Engine Block, Heads and Crank etc. are available separately.

Pictures are showing the original Big Bad Green paint and blackC-Stripes. The prior owner claimedthat the engine bay and doorjambs were retouched.Please note that production figures are not recordedfor a 1970 Javelin SST with the Big Bad Green paint. It should be reasonable toconclude thatbased on 68 & 69 Javelin and 68, 69 & 70 AMX numbers,that production was low, maybe a couple hundred at most! Production figures show 19714 total in SSTtrim produced; 2730 of them with 390-V8 and part of those in auto-transmissions

The last 48 years of the usual nicks, scratches, dings etc.are present. I believe it to be a great \"20-Footer!\" (This isNota Show Car) Minor rust is present in the usual places and “untouched” providingunobstructed inspection. Most of the minor rust is behind rear wheelson lower fenders and is still solidly backed, however other suspect areas arerust free, like the undercarriage and front fender troughs. In the time I’ve owned it, the car saw warmdry storage during winter and harsh weather conditions. Last winter the car saw its first coldstorage winter. History believed to beoriginally purchased in California, saw Denver CO, CT, Albany NY and now centralMN.

The drivability of the car is fun for knowledgeableexperienced drivers and demands respect.Automatic Transmission is operated through a B&M Mega Shifter with areverse pattern. The shift sequence is manual only and sequential up and downwith reverse lockout. Electric Fuel pump on/off switch is independent fromignition. Brakes are manual (Power vacuum module was removed) and requiresadditional leg pressure. Setup,components are meant for performance business.(This is not an easy cruising vehicle)

My “In progress” mechanical list includes; a) Improvingbraking, maybe a new proportioning valve and or restoring Power module. b) Front of car starts a vibration above 65mph; Isolated vibration to front spindle & hub / bearing miss-match, haven’tdecided what to do. c) Electric fuelpump makes lite noise, but noise increases, is inconsistent and seems to be heatbuildup related from proximity to exhaust and or it could be inadequategrounding. Tried solutions including arebuild, heat shielding and improving rubber mount isolation. I was alwaysintending to go with electronic fuel injection and thought this would dissolvealong with “d” d) Carburetor fuel bowl needles leak with any pressure above ½-psi.e) As many do, the interior dash pad hascurled up. f) Headliner fabric separatedfrom shell and was removed. g) Dashpanel separation near glove box. h) Replacedpassengers window trim felt and door pull but still have not replaced driversside yet, have the parts. i) Fine Tuningnext; Once decided on fuel octane, timing check and adjustment, settingthermostat for new fans, etc.

No overheating of boiling over;

I’m looking for a market price, do not need to sell.
To get an idea of value, please spend some time reviewing the following:
• See an appraisal of the car from 2016 shown in the photos under description. Call the appraiser for an updated valuation / questions from this third party whom has seen, heard this car running.
• See Nada Guides (Seller geared? – general) online, free - • See Old Car Price Guide (Buyer geared? – original condition type) [Definitely not a #4 but maybe not quite a #3] this review requires a subscription / purchase

Hot to me is overheating in traffic or idleing, boil over, gotta go home.. Mind me asking your reserve?

prolongracing:

Please define hot? The prior build sometimes would creep up around 190F but would come back down when cruising 35 to 45 mph. Over time I ve tried different rated thermostats and timing. It s very crisp and responsive at 165F where thermostat opens currently. So with this new rebuild, I purchased a new champion aluminum 4-core radiator and dual sealed fans to hold it at 165F. It was installed with an adjustable thermostat. Great question, thanks for your interest!

Does it ever run hot or overheat?

On Nov-16-18 at 21:46:13 PST, seller added the following information:

The following answers were given to local questions:

·The engine was Balanced by Wagamon Brothers inColumbia Heights, MN

·The heads and intake manifold were ported

·The ignition timing was upgraded to a customcrank trigger system before engine rebuild (see attached pictures)

·The car cover will go with the car.

·A 1970 American Motors Technical service manualwill go with the car “when I find it”.

·My experience with Vehicle History Reports isthat they do not work on vehicles older than 1981 and or do not have 17 digitsin the VIN number. This VIN is correct andmatches the cars content and door tag. (I’veprovided a prior appraisal identification writeup below)

·The battery is an Optima Redtop 910 CA, 720 CCA#RED75/35 and is about 3+ years old.When the car is parked, I disconnect the battery and check it a coupletimes during the winter months. Thestarter is not stock, it has improved torque for high compression engines. I do not have any problems starting with thiscombination.

·Tabs where just purchased with new plates inSeptember this year.

·Financing options;

o CapitalOne Auto Finance (I’ve used this myself)

o LightStream[3.34% rate]; style=\"margin: 16px 0px 0px 48px; text-indent: -0.25in;\">·As mentioned before, the following enginecomponents are available: (Not Included in sale)

o Theoriginal 390 engine block has standard cylinder bore with minimal taper of .0035”(spot checks). I believe .010” over should clean it up! I also have a 401 block that has a good standardbore.

o The390 crankshaft is turned .010/.010 but should be polished. Also, a 401 crankshaft turned .010/.020 andmay need polishing.

o Twosets of stock 390 / 401 rods (3197047) [one rod needsreconditioning on small end]

o Twosets of aftermarket TRW flat top 390 / 401 pistons, STD and .030”over w/fly cut valve reliefs. [both sets @ 1.50” piston height]

o Misc. Harmonic Balancers, flex plates and flywheels for 390 and 401
