FOR AUCTION: 1969Pontiac Catalina 2-door; not Bonneville, Impala, SS, or Caprice, 428

For Auction is a69Catalina 2-door hardtop and comes with several H.O. performanceand other optional components.Idon’t want to misusedescriptors like“Survivor’ or“Unmolested;” but its astraight, rust free, strong running, solid carwith 53K original miles. It still wears its original Mayfair Maze paint and bright chrome. Thiscar could easily be a daily driveror cruiser with a littleTLC and afresh vinyl top;or its a great foundationto take as far as youlike.

I was working on the carfor military member assigned overseas, and continued overseas workunfortunately drove him to request I sell the project. He had abunch of factory 428 H.O. parts and neat, original, optional equipment with thecar and intended to recreate a 428 H.O. Catalina. H.O. Catsare morerare than 427 Impalas and are arguably better looking and betterperformers.

As factory assembled, thecar has some desirable options like Power Disc Brakes and a Tilt SteeringColumn. The vinyl top was Fawn Brown which was pretty uncommon withthe Mayfair Maze Yellow. As mentioned above, the original 290 HP 400engine runs strong and the Turbo 400 tranny shifts smoothly. No leaks.

THE BAD:

  • The rear window channeleroded and the repair is not complete. The leak is currently plugged, but the best way to complete the repair is to replace some of the window channel metal.
  • Someinteriorpieces are removed in the back of the car awaiting completion of the rear window channel
  • The hood has been damaged at the left rear corner. The story is not important, but it will have to be repairedby somebody more proficient with body work or the hood will need replacement. The hood hinges have been replaced and are fine.
  • The front seat is torn and could use a fresh cover. The rear seat should clean up fine with a shampooing.
  • Scratch along the door (see photo) acquired while removing the car from a trailer.

THE 428

The 428 IS NOT included in this auction, but is available to thewinning bidder for $2900.. The YK block we got with the car endedup cracked and unrepairable. We used a‘69 YH block and‘69crank. We bored it .030, used ICON forged pistons, and had the entirerotating assembly professionally balanced.TheH.O.“62”headsare redone and port-matched. The pistons are dished resultingin a9.88 to 1 Compression Ratio.. pretty safe on today’s gas. Cam is a Comp Cams XE grind.

In summary, its a heck of a good car and a lot of stuff for themoney. The reserve is very reasonable. A Chevy with the equivalentparts wouldlikely be double the money. Some of the parts abovealone have some decent value. The car, completed with the parts included, will draw plenty of attention; you seldom see a cool B-Body out there.Even though Pontiacmade many more B-bodies than GTOs,Ebay is now full of GTOs and yousee few 2-door,full-sized cars.It seems most of themfound their way to the crushers.

Ihavecredibly described the car and do not believe thereare any more significant strong or weak points to cover. Please post anyquestions. Car sold as is. No returns.
