A very nice condition , great looking and running 1966 Fairlane 500 XL convertible with bucket seats and floor console. Exact mileage is unknown due to swapped out instrument panel. This is an early build car, October 13th 1965 and is one of only about 3600 GT and XL convertibles built . The car was left outside for 5 years with no top so when I got it from the prior owner there was no interior left. It was all completely ruined. Mechanically however the car was in great shape, in fact I brought it from Las Cruces NM to Rio Rancho, NM ( over 300 miles) with no problems. When I started to refurbish the car I discovered a prior owner had replaced all the floor pans, (front and rear), installed new springs and had a small area of the left rear \"frame\" patched, the rest of the frames and torque boxes are OK. The engine had been rebuilt, in fact the healthy 289 idles at 45 PSI oil pressure with no smoking, knocks or leaks. It has an OEM 4 barrel intake manifold with an Edelbrock carb and dual exhausts. The C4 transmission works excellent, no slipping, noises or leaks. The brakes work just fine. The car also has the hard to find and usually discarded or lost firewall to fender braces and the equally rare step plates that go under the sill plates . Both of these are usually lost over the years. Please find listed below the work done on the car:Brand new Black top with glass rear window, new pads, new roof rail weatherstripping, new springs and cables, new power top hydraulic lines, new tires, period correct Rocket rims, new upper control arms with new ball joints and bushings, fresh front end alignment, new power steering control valve, new power steering ram, new control valve lines, new fuel sending unit, new alternator, new radiator with new hoses, rebuilt heater box with new heater core . The blower motor is a 3 speed. Replacement defroster duct, new carpets, new door panels front and rear, new scuff (sill) plates new arm rests, new door courtesy lights, new kick panels, new turn signal mechanism and harness, new GT door handles, new door opener regulator on the drivers side, refurbished Deluxe steering wheel, new dash pad cover, new rear view mirror. The floor shifter was rebuilt with new bushings, indicator lights and wire harnesses. The interior was repainted with the original Emberglo color with all new Black soft interior parts, top and carpet. All the glass is good, no chips or cracks, all the windows go up and down with no problems. Having had a \'66 Fairlane in the past and hated the uncomfortable seats I went instead with modern better looking and way more comfortable Mustang Cobra bucket seats with mustang rear seats. If you want original seats they are available on several web sites. Ive seen several complete sets on ebay from $500- $750.00.
We have had 105 degree weather for 2 weeks and the car never got over 190 degrees, oil pressure is excellent and runs and drives very well. The Bad;The drivers\' side vent window upper hinge is broken.
The drivers side real quarter panel , just behind the rear wheel is curled up from the rear wheel having come off sometime in the past when the prior owner had it. Dont ask me how this could happen but anyone who does not replace a convertible top for 5 years is quite capable of doing this. You can repair this or just leave it be as its not really noticeable. There is minor bubbling in the usual areas in these cars but no heavy rust. The paint I believe will buff out and look pretty good. There are no dents, dings etc. This is not a 35K show car or restoration, It is however a solid, good looking great running car that you can drive every day. This is a Texas/New Mexico car not a mid-west/east coast rust bucket. I wouldn\'t hesitate to drive this car anywhere, fly in drive it home. Questions? call or text Dean 505-414-0617

UPDATE: I just installed a reconditioned speedometer head and fuel gauge in the instrument panel. At the same time I replaced all the light bulbs with LED ones. You will never have to change a light bulb again. I also just installed a new horn contact plate, horn contacts, and rubber bushing so the horns now work perfectly and like new. I found an NOS fuel gauge sending unit so I replaced the new just installed aftermarket one with the NOS unit. I also forgot to mention that along with the new top, pads etc I also had the top shop install a brand new well liner. I am including a lot of take-out parts and extras with the car including a spare top pump, instrument panel etc., also the shocks were all recently replaced.

The damage to the passenger side rear wheel well was caused by the prior owner having installed tires that were way too large. The tires hit the wheel well lip and caused the damage you see in the pictures. This is easily repaired as its superficial.
