Ford’s Country Sedan Fordor was the middle trim full-size Ford station wagon from 1952 until 1974. It was based on the Ford full-size car line available in each year. Unlike the Country Squire, the Country Sedan featured plain body sides. This low mileage 3 owner Wichita Kansas example is a great family cruiser that is sure to put a smile on everyones face! Plus it is equipped with the factory Z code 390ci V8!

This particular wagon was made in Ford’s Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota factory on August 27, 1964. It left the factory with the following equipment – 390 CID V-8 engine, Deluxe Trim Group, chrome luggage rack, Selectaire air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes, tinted glass and AM radio. This particular unit was delivered to Turner Ford in Wichita, Kansas and its original owner bought it on October 10, 1964. According to the original invoice, he traded in a 1951 Ford wagon for this wagon. Since then, the car has had two additional owners.

Finished in Phoenician Yellow (code 7), the wagon’s original paint and trim are in great overall condition, complete with hand painted Mike’s Body Shop livery and custom pinstriping. There are a few minor blemishes on the body, as it is mostly original paint. Otherwise, the wagon’s windows are in great shape, clear and intact. The stacked headlights and ovoid vertical taillights are in very good order.

This family hauler’s bodywork is solid and straight, its engine bay is very tidy and the battery is in great shape. The wagon’s bumpers are in very good order and the cargo area is in satisfactory condition. This wagon rolls on Nitto radials, size 255/45R18 at all four corners and are in good shape. Each tire surrounds a gray, five-spoke aluminum wheel and those wheels look great and offer good contrast to the body color.

Under the hood is Ford’s Z-code 390 CID V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor breathing through dual exhausts and buttoned to a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission with a 3.00:1 rear end. Driver convenience features include Selectaire air-conditioning, which is currently inoperable, power steering, power brakes and a chrome luggage rack complete with surfboard.

Inside, the wagon has a Palomino (code 69) vinyl interior that’s in very good overall order. There are blemishes on the front seats for being over 53 years old. The front and rear bench seats are in great shape, along with the matching carpet and headliner. The two-spoke steering wheel, instrument panel and inner door panels all look great. The cargo area does not simply have a rear-facing third seat but a rear-facing bench plus two fold-down jumpseats that face each other, providing multiple seating options. What kid didn’t like riding in the back? The shift lever looks good and completing the interior is an AM radio.

The Country Sedan was based on the Customline from 1952 to 1954. Beginning in 1955, Ford spun their station wagons into their own series and the Country Sedan continued to represent the mid-trim level station wagon. During the 1960s and 1970s, the Country Sedan was approximate to the Galaxie and Galaxie 500 in trim elements. For 1972, 1973 and 1974 the model was marketed as the Galaxie 500 Country Sedan and from 1975 it was rebranded “LTD wagon.”

Documentation includes original owner’s manual, original conditional sales contract, original invoice, a copy of the 1965 Ford Factory Shop Manual on CD-ROM, another Ford Galaxie CD-ROM and miscellaneous service and maintenance receipts that back up the low mileage of this wagon.

Vehicle also comes with original tires and wheels, a trouble light, tool kit, original carburetor and miscellaneous parts.

Competition to this Ford in 1965 included Chevrolet’s Bel-Air wagon, Dodge’s Polara wagon, Oldsmobile’s Custom Vista Cruiser wagon and Pontiac’s Catalina wagon.
