1965 Chevrolet Caprice4-door hard top matching numbers 396 cuin 325 hp
Frame off restoration on a61,786 mile rust free, no hit, Arizona car.All new body mount bushings. Allfuel & brake lines replaced. Newfuel tank & sending unit. Freshsprings, front & rear with 4 new Monroe Sensa-Trac gas shocks. Front suspension completely rebuilt. Fresh front disc brake conversion. New rear drums, shoes & all brakehardware. All bushings replaced, frontto rear. Undercarriage, frame &suspension components sandblasted & detailed. 4 new 15” BF Goodrich red line radialsmounted on American Torque Thrust 2’s. (Note: First 2 pictures show rusty lug nuts all ofwhich have since been replaced.) Hasrebuilt factory 12 bolt posi with 3:08 gears and rebuilt 2-speed powerglide. 2-1/2” dual exhaust, front torear with full size mufflers & resonators producing a very nice sound. Engine compartment detailed. Has professionally rebuilt factory matchingnumbers 396 cuin motor. New coil & distributorwith petronix, remanned Rochester 4 barrel quadrajet, fresh wiring &charging system. New water, fuel pump& Delco starter. Recored radiatorwith shroud & aggressive 7-blade steel fan.All wear items have been replaced as needed. Has retro stereo, new clock, tack, oilpressure & water temp gauges, as any big block should. Fresh 2-stage professional repaint in factoryEvening Orchid, 1 year only color, wet sanded & buffed to a beautifulfinish. Bright work is exceptionalincluding OER replacement rear bumper & wheel well moldings. Front & rear bow tie emblems replacedincluding front v-flag emblems. Factorytinted glass is also of show quality with no hazing, cracks or chips, includingall windows working smoothly. No sticking or rattles. Trunkhas also been detailed & retains its original inner fender liners &trunk mat. Weatherstripping, seals &gaskets replaced as needed. Interior hasoriginal beautifully maintained upholstery, headliner & carpet with norips, cracks or blemishes. Car has original factory tilt wheel. Everything works beautifully, as itshould. The car has been driven approximately2,200 miles since restoration, and now has a total of 63,986 miles. This is also a rare car on account of itsfactory combination. In 1965 the Capricewas an option package, not its own model until 1966. This was to compete with Ford after Fordsprang up with the Galaxy Ltd. Chevy hadto wait till mid year to offer the Caprice option package, resulting in verylow production figures. This car’s firsttitle was given in October 1965. Chevroletthen offered the new 396 cuin turbo jet “mystery engine”. That replaced the former big block 348 cuin &409 cuin. In the beginning it’s saidthere was a shortage of 400 turbo transmissions to go with the 396 cuin as theywere allocated to other GM Divisions first.So this car came from the factory with a 2-speed power glide. Being a 4-door hard top, otherwise known as“the Sport Sedan”, it was also built with the heavy duty frame like the stationwagon & convertibles.
This car being a 4-doorhard top sport sedan of low production numbers with a 396 cuin 325hp motor,power glide transmission, factory 12 bolt posi traction rearend & one yearonly color of Evening Orchid, makes it very different and rare.
