Up forauction is our 64 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback. This car was sold new inFayetteville, Alabama at Lewis Ford. Itwas only in service for several years before it was parked in the originalowners garage, where it sat for many years. When this time capsule wasdiscovered the odometer reading was only 74000 miles. It was owned by its original owner for nearly53 years!
The car wasbrought to Colorado where it underwent a full mechanical check; the engine wasflushed with all new fluids and filters, resealed, all new ignition tune-upitems, the original carburetor was fully rebuilt, all new hoses and clamps, newbattery, radiator was flushed out and filled with new coolant, new fuel pumpand water pump. The fuel system was also completely flushed. The brake systemwas also flushed and a new master cylinder was installed. I will say this carruns and drives like an absolute dream. The engine is tight and super smoothwith no smoke or odd noises. The C6 automatic transmission is also quiet andsmooth. The factory power steering isquiet, smooth and free of any leaks. The brakes work perfectly as expected. It has factory dual exhaust and it isoriginal to the car, there is one area at the cross over where it has somesmall holes (does not sound loud). Ileft it original because that truly tells a lot about this car and itsoriginality to have the original exhaust intact. As youdrive the car it has a very solid and quiet feel. Going over rail road tracksits SOLID with absolutely no rattles. We have put some miles on the car and itsvery reliable and fun to drive!
The exteriorof this car is stunning. The paint is beautiful and in super condition for beingoriginal paint. The passenger door hasbeen repainted and a blend goes about 2 feet into the quarter panel. I don’t see any body work here, as it appearsit was just a scratch repair. That portionof the car has some lite checking in the paint.Otherwise, the rest of the paint is original and very nice. Thebrightwork is all original and super nice. All original glass that is pit freeand nearly flawless including the windshield. Inside the trunk is all originaland perfect (not a single rust spot). The spare is a very old bias plywhitewall tire with all the original jack hardware. The wire hubcaps areoriginal to the car and very nice. The car also hasnewer whitewall radial tires.
The interiorof this car is amazing. The seats, door panels and carpet are original and lookperfect. It has always had rubber floormats that have kept the carpet like new. The dash in this car shows almost nowear, the dash pad is perfect, all the gauges are crisp and clean, the controlsand switches are all working. Everything on and inside this car works perfect;lights, horn, wipers, turn signals, hi-low beam, speedo, gauge function, etc .. The only non-working gauge is the fuelgauge. Inside the glove compartment is a copy of theoriginal title, the original title registration and some receipts from theoriginal selling Ford dealer. This caris a true time capsule and when sitting in the car and the AM radio comes on withsome oldies, it feels like your living in ‘64 all over again. The undercarriageis clean and 100% rust free. The frame and suspension have many of its originalpaint marking and the floors are still primer oxide with only the factoryundercoating in the wheel wells. If you are looking for a SURVIVOR Galaxie 500 that is fun todrive and looks great in your garage then this is the car for you. The fact this car is mostly original paint, blackon black, and a big block makes it very rare and unusual. This car is affordable and a soundinvestment.
