Here\'s another of those Oldies but Goodies... Up for sale is my 1953 Hudson Hornet... This car was originally purchased in California and spent most of its life with one family. I\'ve had the car up on a hoist where a mechanic and I spent a couple of hours checking the floor pan and frame. We literally found no rust or rot anywhere! The car is solid and it starts and runs well each time we drove it. When I first bought it, I had my mechanic look it over before driving it. It had some problems: the car\'s exhaust manifold was cracked and leaking plus the dual carbs needed rebuilding. I was able to locate a good manifold and that has now been installed and both carbs have been rebuilt. That work has all been done. I am selling the car as is, where is as I have lost my storage. My mechanic is closing up his shop and I will soon be losing my storage area. That makes a great deal for you as the price will be a bargain for someone that seriously wants this fine car.The car has a lot of good points:
1. The car starts and runs well and has the NASCAR engine with the Clifford Hi Compression Aluminum Power Head... see the engine photo.
2. The paint and exterior of the car is in excellent condition.
3. All new upholstery professionally installed throughout the interior of the car... except headliner...
4. There is no broken glass and all side windows operate good. Even the rear vent windows function as they should.
5. All chrome has recently been re-plated and looks great.
6. The original steering wheel was cracked in several places however I found a new-old-stock identical Hudson steering wheel and had it installed in the car. Sure looks sharp. Now for the current issues and work that the car needs:
1. The car needs a new headliner. It was torn when I bought the car. The original owner accidentally ripped a portion of the headliner and now it needs replacing. Replacement kits are available for a do-it-yourself-ers at reasonable cost at: Acme Auto Headlining Co. in Long Beach, CA
2. The car will have a new fuel pump which I hope to have done prior to your purchasing the car.
3. This car has the NASCAR engine with the desired Clifford High Compression Aluminum Head. The last time we checked the engines\' compression; it was within specs, now, however, the rear piston compression checked low. It may be wise to pull the head and check all the valve seats to see if any repair is needed. Since I\'ve lost my storage, that will be up to the new owner. But the car starts and drives okay as of now.
4. Two of the tires are good and roadworthy; two are looking thin. I suggest that you replace the two that are thin.I know I spent most of my life buying/restoring and fixing up old cars and I\'m sure you know what I mean. These old cars are great but they seem to always need something fixed... So you just dig in and start fixing... Sad, but my fixing days are over... my health and age are against me. So bear with me and buy my cars. See my other auction for my 1951 Buick! When old timers think of Hudson Automobiles, you automatically think of how Hudson Motor Cars dominated the NASCAR Races of 1951, 1952 and 1953... and, when you think of a small automotive company to beat the pants off the entries like Big Block GM, Ford and Chrysler Hemi\'s in the most popular race in racing history... and then be forced out of business three years later... Makes you wonder... What the Hell happened!Hudson Motor Car Company started building its first cars in 1909 and it was fast and reliable. The people that purchased them throughout the years surely enjoyed their Hudson as when they were ready for a new car, they returned to their Hudson dealer to purchase another Hudson! I\'ve heard of numerous stories as to why those people always drove Hudson\'s and didn\'t want to try another brand. Maybe it\'s because they were reliable and FAST! Throughout history Hudson earned a reputation of dependability and SPEED! The gangsters in Chicago drove the big 8 cylinder Hudson Terra-planes... The Gangster Dillinger was one who liked and drove Hudson\'s and when he was finally captured, the Chicago Police asked him why he always drove Hudson\'s? He laughed as he puffed on his cigar, then smiled and said: \"I drive Hudson\'s \'cause its the only car you Police can\'t catch.\"
